We wrote in our October prayer diary:

"Pray for Mike as he leads the community and helps develop an environment that will encourage personal growth for everyone and maximizes our strengths together."

Mike spoke at the morning service yesterday on being forgiven. It was a joy to have Manfred Schaller with us for the day. Manfred is on the Board for the ship ministry. We value his friendship and support to our leadership at this time.

Today we begin another week of preparations for sailing. We thank God for the team on board. It is cold and windy in Trogir just now. We have no heating on board. Pray for the engineers as they try to install piping to ensure we have some heating. This will also be helpful in Kiel.

Prayer Diary

We wrote in our October prayer diary:

"Pray that Christ in us will shine among our friends
here in Croatia. Praise God that our neighbors have
been attending the Sunday services on the ship. Pray that they will see Christ. "

Pray that as our neighbors, read the literature that we have given that they will experience the life transforming power of Christ.

Today, Mike is speaking at the Service on board the ship. He will speak on Luke 5:17 - 26.

We bring people to Jesus because he has the authority to forgive. A forgiven person experiences healing and life attitude is transformed. Everyone needs to be forgiven!

"Pray as we study through the book of Nehemiah. Pray that we gain insight from the word of God that will apply to our walk today. Pray for good team work in this time"

• Pray for the Stability book to be ready. It is an essential document for calculating various aspects of stability and load on the ship
• Pray the the audits for safety (ISM) and security (ISPS) will result in the appropriate certificates
• Pray for the teams that are lashing down furniture on the ship.
• Pray for the finance we need to sail

PRINCIPLES FOR LIVING IN COMMUNITY AND SERVING TOGETHER

Revelation of righteousness

The gospel is a revelation of God’s righteousness. This righteousness is a gift to His people. We are called to be holy. Our life and service as a community must reflect this. “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ”. (Titus 2:11-13) We have been given the capacity to choose righteousness by the grace of God.

Relationship of love

The gospel is a demonstration of the love of God. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) Community life is defined by the love of the Father. Our behaviour is to be governed by love. Love is willing to sacrifice for the best interest of the other person even if they do not deserve it.

Responsibility as individuals in community

We are responsible to live out the principle of righteousness and relationship in a way that builds one another up, draws us closer to God and enables us to witness fruitfully. “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” (Ephesians 4:15 -16)

Prayer Diary

We wrote in our October prayer calendar:

"Pray for Michelle as she invests in the lives of other teens. Pray that she will
know His grace and strength and that she will have many opportunities to share her faith with others."

We are looking forward to have Michelle and her boyfriend, Dan join us for a few weeks over Christmas. We thank God for the support and encouragement that Michelle receives from friends and church in Australia.

Yesterday the engineers fixed a generator that had a major problem. We pray that as they test is that it will be useful especially on the voyage. It will eventually need to be replaced. We have 3 generators for power supply on the Logos Hope.

Last night we had a great time of prayer for Europe. "Father reveal your purpose and lead us in your ways."

Leaders who meet for prayer before the daily work begins

Praying together at 07:30 this morning. Pray for for the Lloyd's surveyor to be able to come today and check areas that are now ready for sailing. Pray for the ISM Auditor to be able to arrive next week and that we will be ready for the Audit. Pray for the Stability book that is needed for sailing to be delivered on time from Lloyds. Pray for safety as we work towards the goal of sailing on the 31st October.

We wrote in our October Prayer Calendar:

"Pray for the Logos 2 in Kiel. Pray that we will be a catalyst for the good news
in the city and the region. Pray for Kevin Boyce as he
leads the Logos 2 community."

This morning Ann meets with the wives from Logos Hope for a time of fellowship and study. Mike meets with the Logos Hope project leaders here each morning at 07:30 for prayer. We read a few verses from the book of Nehemiah each day. Yesterday we read "Next to him" several times as we reflected on how they worked together to complete the task of rebuilding the wall.

Tonight we meet for prayer as a community of 160 people. Our plan is to focus on what God is doing in Europe - unless He interrupts with another agenda.

We thank God for the Logos Hope Academy and the encouragement that it is to Esther to study with others. They have fun together every day.

Book Review

"Living as people of Hope"

by Jeff Fountain

1. Who can predict what will happen in Europe in the 21st century.
2. Where is hope? The overwhelming sense of the 20th-century was one of despair because of the world wars and depressions.
3. What is the message that people hear today?

-- Christians have little hope to offer Europe in the 21st century because they are seen to be absorbed with the end of the age and an eschatology of gloom and doom, I often see a weakened and dis-united Church. The message is seen as being irrelevant for today.

10 prerogatives for Europe:

1. We need to asked what is God's will for Europe?

2. We should reject the enemies disinformation.

3. We must recognize what God has done in the past.

4. We should admit honestly past sins and mistakes of the people of God in Europe.

5. We need to look at what God is up to today.

6. We have to face up to the truth about the present. Europe is a continent that is particularly guilty of deliberately suppressing knowledge of God, and has become a desperately needy mission field.

7. We must rediscover the gospel of the kingdom for Europe. The good news about the reconciliation of all things, through Christ work on the cross, applies to every sphere of life affected by Satan: family life, church life, governmental affairs, business and economics, education, arts and entertainment, law and health, sports and so on.

8. We ought to embrace our responsibility and roll to be salt and light in the world.

9. We need to transplant the church into the cultures of the 21st century

10. It is imperative that we synergise! God does not give the full picture to any one group or denomination or stream; in order to regain full vision, we need to be in proper relationship with other parts of the body of Christ, leading to partner together towards the building of the kingdom -- locally, nationally and throughout the continent.

Prayer Diary

We wrote in our prayer diary:

"We hope to sail at the end of the month. We can have only 86 sail for this first voyage as we will have a one voyage certificate.
The Passenger Ship Safety Certificate will be obtained in Kiel."

The Lloyd's auditor has approved several areas for preparation for sailing. We are still waiting for some documentation. Keep praying for safety in all the work and for us to be ready for the external ISM (International Safety Management) audit next week.

We thank God for the team on board and for the way that they are working together to prepare for sailing.

Prayer Diary

We wrote in our prayer diary:

"Pray for Ann today as she mentors and counsels members of the team and disciples new believers. Pray for wisdom and discernment as we invest in others."

Tonight, we meet in Bible study groups. The small groups in the ship community form the heart of the life on board. A high priority for us is to support the small group leaders as they facilitate the health and growth of the community.

Spiritual leadership identity and influence

The identity and influence of a Spiritual leader

1. Sonship - we belong to the Father, have significance in the Son, and capacity to serve in the power the Holy Spirit.
2. Servant -- if we start here we could soon burnt out in leadership. However if we begin with Sonship and we serve out of the resource that we find in our intimacy with God then our capacity to lead is enhanced.
3. Shepherd - we care for the well-being of God's people and seek to provide an environment for their growth and to lead them through the experiences of life in a way that they can participate in the purpose of God more fully.
4. Soldier -- leadership and management requires discipline. This will be evident in our relationships, our work and our witness.
5. Steward -- we need to be responsible for the resources that ultimately belong to God. Leadership and management involve good stewardship of these resources.
6. Significance -- as leaders and managers we treat everyone with respect and value them as being significant to God as members of his family and citizens of his kingdom.
7. See -- we need to learn to catch vision from God and to see what he is doing so that we can help people embrace his purpose. So prayer and the word are central to Spiritual leadership
8. Struggler – God has not finished with us yet. We are still a bunch of ragamuffins in need of daily grace to grow in maturity and effectiveness.
9. Sign of Grace – All true spiritual leadership flows out of the grace of God at work in our lives.
10. Sovereignty of God – we recognise that the work and the people belong to God. He is at the centre and His hand guides us towards His purpose.
11. Student – Spiritual leaders are life long learners who are able to interpret their experiences so that they add value to their vision for the future
12. Seasons – healthy leadership identity leads to good succession planning and a recognition of the seasons of life influence. This is not limited to his leadership position.
13. Sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit – without the leading of the Holy Spirit we tend to control and command instead of guiding and governing in a way that He gives the lead
14. Sense – Good management makes sense of the situation and finds practical ways forward
15. Synergy – Working with the team and harnesses the strengths together to accomplish shared purpose

Prayer Calendar

We wrote in the October prayer calendar:

"Pray for the ISM Audit and the ISPS audit. These are to prepare us for safety and security of our
systems on the ship. They are needed for sailing. Pray for discipline as we prepare."

Today John Seaman began the ISM internal audit in preparation for the external Audit next week. The Lloyd's Surveyor was on board today and passed a number of items in preparation for sailing. Thank you for praying.

Please let us know if you visit our blog. We are on a journey of faith. On the Logos Hope and Logos 2 we are studying through the book of Nehemiah in the Bible.

God gave Nehemiah a vision to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. When he heard the report he responded in prayer and then gave leadership to the initiative. He faced opposition but kept focused on the task that God had given to him. Through His leadership the people were led to see that a spiritual rebuilding needed to be done in their lives as they built the wall around the city and around the temple that had been rebuilt in response to the prophetic encouragement by Haggai and Zechariah several years earlier.

Many of us have built our temples of worship to God but the walls of our lives are still in a ruin because of the influence the world around us and the attacks of Satan. It is time for us to rebuild those ruins so that our strength is found in our identity in Christ and the strongholds of the enemy are broken. The walls of God’s protection will surround us so that his purpose triumphs over deception and defeat. We learn about prayer, worship, repentance, discipline, leadership, conflict and struggles. We see God’s sovereign purpose for his chosen people unfold through the pages of this practical handbook for a missional community.

“Oh Lord God of Heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him and obey His commands, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants the people of Israel.” Nehemiah 1:5,6.

What if we really believed the work is God’s and that breakthroughs come from Him alone. Would this not radically impact our prayer life and move us to greater depth in worship, intercession, confession and steps of faith to rebuild the walls of protection around the people of God.

Logos 2 in Kiel, Germany

The Logos 2 is in Kiel. The community on board is working with the churches of Kiel to connect with the city and bring a message of transformation. Our goal is for the Logos Hope to leave Trogir on the 31st October. May hundred of details need to come together. Pray that the gracious hand of God will guide us forward.

Connecting

Each week we have an informal forum to connect on issues to help shape and strengthen the Logos Hope vision. We have been focusing on Leadership and management.

Management is... what I do with task and process to accomplish a goal with people.

Leadership is... How I inspire, invest in and influence people towards a vision of a better future.

In our previous week’s discussion we talked about aspects of leadership and management that we would like to focus on. This week as a group, we identified three key areas to focus on for improvement:

1. Communication

2. Organization and administration

3. Mentoring

Today, we received news that our proposed manning for the Logos Hope has been accepted by the Faroes Marine Authority. This means that we have enough crew to sail the ship at the end of this month. This week surveys are taking place to enable us to obtain the necessary certificate for this first voyage.

Preparing to sail

The Logos Hope community is growing. Today 140 people live on board. Some have come from the Logos 2. Families still live on shore. We are now preparing the ship to sail to Kiel in Germany. We thank God for the crew that is coming together and for the work that has been accomplished here. We sense that His gracious Hand has led us through many challenges and now we are moving towards the next phase of preparing the ship for ministry. We have begun studying through the book of Nehemiah as a community.

The law is writtien on our hearts

“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their mind and write them on their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbours, or a man his brother saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will al know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more. “ Heb 8:10-11

The Law is written on our hearts – The Law expresses the Character of God. The law reveals our inability to enter into the righteousness of God by ourselves. The Law written on our hearts is Christ himself. He is with us and He is writing His character on our hearts. This is radical and ongoing transformation. We have a tendency to settle for a copy of the real and to do things ourselves. The real is Christ, grasped by faith. He is writing His law on our hearts – value based leadership not rule controlled. The value is not in the principle but in the Person. This is astounding grace! This is true for those of us who think we have something more than others and those who feel inferior. Amazing truth is that Christ is with us. The key to the future walk of faith is our relationship with Him.

We enjoyed Rebecca's visit earlier this summer. It was too short. She has spent most of the summer in London helping to type letters for George Verwer. She returns to Canada tomorrow. Pray as settles back into life at Trinity Western Univerity.

We had new from Michelle last week that she was in an accident with her car. The car rolled over twice and was a write off. She walked away unhurt. We than God for his protection.

Mike visited the Logos 2 in the Faroe Islands. He spoke a the international night. Pray that we will see seafarers form the Faroe Islands join us to help sail the Logos Hope from Trogir.
